Universal Orlando: Islands of Adventure: Jurassic Park Information

One of the creative forces behind Universal's Islands of Adventure is none other than famed director, Steven Spielberg. Adding his magic to Dueling Dragons and bringing his blockbuster hit "Jurassic Park" to Islands of Adventure was a stroke of genius. This section of the park faithfully recreates the "Jurassic" environment from the film.

Universal Orlando: Islands of Adventure: Jurassic Park Information

The largest of the six islands that make up Universal’s Islands of Adventure®, 21-acre Jurassic Park offers something for everyone, including a water-based thrill ride, playground, dinosaur museum and suspended roller coaster, as well as various restaurants and specialty shops.

Highlights of Jurassic Park include Camp Jurassic, an immense play area full of slides, nets and caves; Jurassic Park Discovery Center, which offers interactive dinosaur exhibits and games; Jurassic Park River Adventure, an incredible raft ride that includes animatronic dinosaurs and an 85-foot, water-soaked drop into darkness; and Pteranodon Flyers, a hanging roller coaster that soars high above Camp Jurassic.

Jurassic Park River Adventure

It's lunchtime... and you're on the menu! Take an unforgettable river raft ride through the jungles of Jurassic Park® and see dinosaurs in their natural habitats.

Jurassic Park River Adventure

John Hammond has invited you to take a peaceful boat ride through the man-made jungles of "Jurassic Park." You will board your River Raft, on your journey through Jurassic Park. Your boat will clear the loading dock toward the large Jurassic Park Archway on the other side waits peaceful non-aggressive herbivores. Your trip suddenly takes a wrong turn when you are thrown off course by a Hadrosaur. You enter the Raptor containment area where you narrowly escape certain death. Your only way out is through the Environmental Control Building, however many of the carnivores have found their way inside and are anxiously waiting for you. If you make it past them you have two big obstacles to face. One obstacle is a hungry 20ft tall 40ft long T-Rex, the only way to escape him is the other is the 85ft drop to safety. Can you survive Jurassic Park? Take the tour and find out!

Jurassic Park Discovery Center

Unearth the mysteries of the planet's prehistoric past in this hands-on interactive activity center. The Jurassic Park Discovery Center® combines entertainment with education in a variety of informative exhibits and displays geared to children and adults.

Jurassic Park Discovery Center

This exhibit is divided into two areas.  The top floor houses "The Burger Digs" (a fast food restaurant), and the DinoStore (a gift shop).  A large spiral staircase (just like the one seen in the film) winds past two suspended dinosaur skeletons.  These are actual props from the film 'Jurassic Park'.   On the lower floor, you will find several interactive experiences.  One area allows you to look through a view finder to see how a dinosaur would see (the units are actually attached to the sides of full scale model dinosaurs, and the heads move as you move the view finder).  You can also make 'noises' to hear what the dinosaur would sound like.

Another area features a trivia game entitled "You Bet Jurassic".  This fast paced, three player trivia game has four rounds that take about 5 minutes to play.  There are 5 versions of the game, so those standing in line to play won't already know the answers when they get their turn.

Against the back wall of the lower level of the Discovery Center is the 'hatchery'.  Here you will find a bank of computers for analyzing dinosaur eggs.  You place the egg in an analyzer, and attempt to discover what kind of dinosaur is inside.  In the center of the back wall, you will see several eggs being rotated.  An attendant will come out to check on them, then announce that one of the eggs is starting to hatch.  It's a remarkable sight, and very well done!!

Pteranodon Flyers

Kids of all ages will enjoy this slow, gentle attraction that suspends riders beneath the 10-foot wingspan of a Pteranodon, a flying reptile thought to be one of the ancestors of today's birds.

Pteranodon Flyers

Oddly enough, this is the only ride we know of in Orlando where you MUST be accompanied by a child if you are over 56" tall. This is a slow loading ride that almost always has a ridiculous wait time. It is also not part of UniversalExpress Plus, so there's no skipping to the front of the line here. The Pteranodon's sport 10 foot wingspans and fly in a circular pattern with you on their backs.  This is part of Camp Jurassic, and as such is more of  a kids ride than anything else.  These flyers are also fairly high up, so those with a fear of heights may want to avoid this, as the flyers are open air.

Camp Jurassic

Camp Jurassic

Located adjacent to Pteranodon Flyers at Jurassic Park, Camp Jurassic is an immense interactive playground with a prehistoric motif that features a variety of areas for kids to explore such as slides, nets, rope bridges, mines and water play areas. Watch out for those water cannons!
